Applying for an Internship with the Federal Public Defender

1. To apply for a summer internship, please fill out the form below. You will receive a response prompting you to send a letter of interest, a resume, a law school grade transcript (official or unofficial), and a short writing sample of no more than five pages (the writing sample can be an excerpt of a larger work like a brief or a legal memo).

2. For a summer internship, please apply between the beginning of January, once you have your grades for the fall semester, and the beginning of February at the latest.

3. We sometimes begin considering resumes for summer internships during January, but normally do this during February and make decisions around the middle of March.

4. We have only volunteer (i.e., unpaid) internships available during the school year and the summer.

5. If you are interested in an internship during a time other than the summer, please apply before the semester in which you want to intern and state in your cover letter the semester during which you would like to intern with us.

Thank you very much for your interest in our office.
