Winning Strategies in Criminal Defense

The Administrative Office of the United States Courts (AO), Defender Services Office, Training Division (DSOTD) is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the Winning Strategies I and Fundamentals of Federal Criminal Defense I Seminars. The seminars will be held January 10-12, 2019 in Miami, Florida, where a favorable hotel rate has been obtained.

 

The seminars are designed for, and attendance is limited to Criminal Justice Act (CJA) practitioners, both panel attorneys, their staff and federal defender staff. There is no tuition, and materials will be provided to participants free of charge. The Winning Strategies seminar will begin Thursday morning, June 10th and end by mid-day on Saturday, January 12. The Fundamentals of Federal Criminal Defense seminar is a separate one-day program that will begin Thursday morning, January 10th and end at 5:00 p.m. the same day. Fundamentals attendees are invited and encouraged to attend the remainder of the Winning Strategies program. The Fundamentals program, which takes place on January 10, 2019, is designed as an overview for new federal CJA practitioners. This program addresses topics which are essential to defending clients in federal criminal cases, including discovery issues, plea negotiations, sentencing guidelines issues, and more. The Winning Strategies Seminar, which is January 10-12, 2019, brings together a dynamic group of faculty who address a wide variety of topics specifically designed to keep panel attorneys and federal defender staff abreast of the most recent and important developments in federal criminal defense. The program includes both large plenary lectures as well as smaller "break-out" lectures, covering topics that meet the needs of the advanced practitioner and the less experienced attorney alike. Sessions will include such subjects as developing immigration trends, recurring issues in drug and gun cases, sentencing, ethics and more. Click here for a draft agenda.

 

Continuing Legal Education (CLE) accreditation for these programs will be sought in all applicable jurisdictions.
